Kairos: The Kairos
Prison Ministry is a lay led Christian ministry in male and female
correctional institutions. The program starts with a 3 day weekend
event inside the institution (similar to an ACTS or Walk to Emmaus
retreats). The focus is on witnessing Christ’s love and forgiveness.
Participants are given the opportunity to experience a life of Christian
witness and service to one another during their stay in the institution,
and beyond. Kairos is an ongoing program with monthly reunion meetings
and weekly prayer and share groupings. Studies have shown that 1
in 4 released inmates become re-offenders. On the other hand, inmates
who have been active in a Kairos program re-offend at a reduced
rate of 1 in 10 inside the institution.
